Lucy is stuck in a very awkward social stage in which is she is unable to make friends. If they are smaller than her, she feels the need to open her mouth wide on approach, scaring the little ones. If they are bigger than her, she stares hard, making more developed ones feel uncomfortable. Poor isolated girl with a doting mom. Sounds like the making of a Lifetime movie.
That said, she was excited to meet our dear friends from Medford's little one. Denali is so lovely and we are optimistic that with time bosom buddies may be made.

One Fish Two Fish
Yellow Fish...
Lucy LOVED swimming!
Our first week of summer, while atypical of the lazy summer days preLucy, has been lovely. By the numbers...Novels read: 0
Board books read: 35
Magazines finished: 1
Magazines chewed, crumpled, destroyed: 6
Mornings spent sleeping in: 1.5 (thanks Mike!)
Early mornings spent cuddling a baby who rarely cuddles: 5
Plus experiencing a plethora of new activities, foods, and sounds. Absolutely lovely.

What Lucy Learned
For months Megan has been researching what a five month old is able to do in preparation for her week here. When she got here she was bound and determined to teach Lucy to crawl. After all, she was the one who taught Lucy to roll over. Crawling didn't quite happen but here are some of the things Megan did teach Lucy.
How to swing
(Probably Lucy's favorite thing ever)
How to pull off bows bigger than her head (well, almost pull off)
How to hold her own bottle
How to pick the most delicious strawberries
How to fear the wrath of Jen ..."If you sunburn my baby..."
How to fear the wrath of Jen ..."If you sunburn my baby..."
How to show a little sass to get what you want
How to use your big toe as a pacifier
How to keep a secret..."Shhh! don't tell mom I fed you watermelon" (and cookie dough)
But then, it would seem that Lucy already learned that skill from Grandma Curtis..."Shhh! Don't tell your dad you were watching t.v." (and "Entertainment Tonight" at that)

It Takes a Village
It has been such a positive experience having family surround us as we raise little Lucy. Some days it is a grandparent being here to care for Lucy while we work. Other days it is an aunt singing Lucy to sleep over Skype. Still other times it is a different aunt cooing and bathing our baby girl in kisses and smiles. Thank you to everyone who has made up our village.

Newborn
This girl is so fabulous. New this month: a little white poking out of the gums, a giggle that is turning into a laugh, scooting, maintaining a sitting position, eating some new foods. Not new this month: ability to draw lots of attention, cute smiles, loud burps, affinity for dressing up, having lots to say, sleeping all night, squirming out of cuddles.

For Grandpa Curtis
After raising four girls, my dad has a thing or two to say about female fashion.
1. If you have fair skin, like his own daughters, wear red. Lots of it.
2. If you are under 13, wear pigtails. All the time.
3. If you are a baby, you must own a sailor dress.
