Even Fairies Need Their Sleep

I decided that I get to draw enough lines around my child as a mom and sleeping attire would not be one of them. Wouldn't we all feel a little cheerier if we woke up to find we had fairy wings on?

The New One

I haven't said a lot about this new little one even though we really are very excited. He is just so accommodating! The biggest stressor of this pregnancy has been the lack of symptoms, causing me to worry he isn't okay. But he is. His movements are still little and take some paying attention to to notice, which I account in part to a toddler whose soundtrack is louder than most. And while I suspect the ultrasound technicians always try to say something that makes you feel like your kid is unique, she did hint that ours was more of a mover than most. A fact which is not hard to believe given our other mover.

As for me, I am starting to feel the largeness of pregnancy that isn't entirely unwelcomed, just disorienting at times. I was heartbroken the first night I went shopping solely for the little guy and couldn't find a single thing I just loved. Girl stuff is just so darn cute. But once I decided on a nautical theme for the nursery, navy stripes and red accents, I can't stop seeing cute things for his room and his wardrobe. He may be wearing only stripes his entire childhood if I have the entire say on shopping!

Lucy had her first moment of sibling sadness when I closed the door to his nursery and she exclaimed between tears that it was still her room too. So we keep the door open and she seems to be pretty happy seeing it washed over in blues. She likes to talk to the baby in Spanish. "Buenos dias bebes" and the like. I think she just likes the way "bebe" sounds. She doesn't seem upset it is a boy but she won't stop calling him her sister. She can't wait to feed him and she practices burping with her elmo doll all day!

As for Mike, every time I get the feeling of fear, how do people raise two kids at one time, he lights up with confidence and seems to really believe it will be more fun than it will be hard. Watching him arm-wrestle Lucy today (she won) I was reminded how very few adjustments he will have raising this boy.

Art Projects

When Lucy was young I was so worried that I would miss learning moments. My main worry was that I was going to miss the window of time to introduce crayons. Turns out worrying was kind of silly, but it does take a some deliberate choices to interweave art projects into our week. They are still pretty hit or miss, some taking serious prep and only lasting a couple of minutes, but it has been mostly fun.

Bugs + Babies + Animals

If someone would have told me a few years ago that one day most of my conversations would connect back to bugs, babies, or animals, I'm not sure I would have believed them. But sure enough, almost every conversation with this two year old returns to bugs or babies or beasts.

It's a Boy

I was sitting with Lucy today while she ate (slowly) and when I looked over at the fridge, instead of noticing what needed to be cleaned, I noticed how perfect it looked. Paintings by Lucy and pictures of our new baby. Although it does look like we will have to add a few shades of blue to our pink and purple art scheme, we are thrilled about that fact. Having no brothers, I draw a blank when I think about the future little guy, but I look forward to figuring it out. And Mike was pretty sure going in to this that raising girls was the best possible option, but he has been beaming with excitement since we got the boy news.

New niece and nephew

Meeting baby Clara (Mike's brother's baby) and Tanner (my sister's baby) on the same night was so much fun. They are both adorable babies with lovely parents. Now Lucy is itching to go meet them too. She talks about them both on a daily basis. It looks like our spring break will be spent in Utah trying to keep Lucy from squishing her two little cousins.
